I am saddened to have to deliver the news that my Mother Betty Ruth Erwin Farmer passed on peacefully on June 23, 2007.
She had been fighting Alzheimers for 7 long years. I wrote a poem of this disease after it first started to take my
Mother little by little.
THE UNSEEN FIGHT
"Where did you go?
I miss you so
You have been there all my life
Now I find myself in an unseen fight
They tell me it is called Alzheimers
I can't see it or touch it
Though I feel the effects of it
I watch it slowly take you away
I feel so helpless, so useless
I think I am losing this fight
A part of you leaves me everyday
A part of you is in me in everyway
I catch glimpses of you from time to time
You are still in there somewhere
This disease, it doesn't fight fair
The person that you were, you will always be
The disease can't take that away from me" Copyright Serena Farmer Steventon 2002
I dedicate this poem to my Mom Betty Ruth. You are finally whole again Mom, free & happy.
I am so lucky to have had you for my Mom, thank you for being my Best Friend & Supporter also.
You will never know how much you mean to me, I love you & miss you so much. November 13, 2007.

This web site is dedicated
to our Freeman Roots and to my mother & to my grandmother, Betty Ruth Erwin Farmer & Rosa Mae Erwin Freeman,
They taught me the true meaning of life, love and family.
They are both gone now and their place can never be filled, but they will remain forever in my
memory, and more importantly, in my heart. I hope you will visit Gram's Tribute Page.

Dear Ancestor
Your tombstone stands among the rest
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew,
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
